Celiac Disease Symptoms

by Holly

About two years ago I started getting some symptoms that I think may be related to Celiac Disease. I get some stomach pain and have very variable bowel movements. My doctor has told me that there is nothing wrong, but I am not sure whether to believe him or not. I know that cutting out gluten from your diet can be a good way of telling whether or not you have the disease, but I have heard that some people have an intolerance even if they eat something that has been cut with a knife used to cut bread. I think now I have read this site I will go back to my doctor and ask again about possible tests and treatments.

Steve's reply: Hi Holly, you may not have celiac disease but you could still be gluten intolerant. Ask your doctor to give you a blood test specifically for celiac disease. Good luck!
