Celebrities With Celiac Disease; See Who Is On The List and Discuss How They Promote Awareness!

Celebrities with celiac disease are excellent sources to raise awareness about CD and the gluten free diet. However, there is an ongoing debate on whether or not celebrities are really helping bring awareness or they are simply trivializing CD or turning a gluten free diet into the latest fad?

Personally I think any awareness about CD is great and because celebrities get the attention of the media, why not have them promote awareness? On the flip side, if celebrities are just switching to a gluten free diet to lose weight or just to look good, then there is a risk that this type of promotion lessens the seriousness of having celiac disease.

One celebrity I think that does a great job in promoting awareness the correct way is Elizabeth Hasselbeck. She has numorous you tube videos and her own book about CD and the gluten free diet.

I believe if celebrities with celiac disease or ones that just follow a gluten free diet want to promote eating gluten free than I think they really need to understand what that really means and more importantly why it is critical for celiacs to follow this type of diet because it is for medical reasons, not to just be a new "trendy" thing to do.

In summary, I welcome celebrities exposure to CD but as long as it is done responsibly and that these celebs really understand the medical reasons why a gluten free diet is critical to people with CD.

Below I have compiled the latest list of celebrities that have claimed to either have celiac disease or chose to eat gluten free for various reasons.
